1840 Riverside Road, Marks

African American church history in Marks began just after the Civil War with Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1865. Shady Grove served as an elementary school from grades one through eight for the children of sharecroppers and plantation workers.

My mother, Mrs. Annie Lee Smith and fellow church member, Mrs. Earline Melchor attended school at Shady Grove. They both attend church services there to this day.

My mom , Bernice Griggs, attended school there too I would say in the late 1940s to 1950s.

I looking for family, great grandmother Pinkie Lee, who died March 1973 in Lambert but I have not found much info. I’m creating a family tree on ancestry listed as Family 1932 for anyone that has info. There is also a tree on familysearch.org .
